Dear Fellow Member,
Firstly, thank you for your confidence and support in electing me as Men's Captain for the coming year. I am hugely humbled to serve as your Captain and I look forward to the year ahead with enthusiasm. I feel privileged to have the knowledge, wisdom and support of "˜Timbo' (Tim Hill) as my Vice Captain. What could possibly go wrong?!
I constantly hear comments that "˜communication could be better' within the Club, so I thought I'd make an attempt at sharing a regular Captain's update with you and this is my first effort!
To celebrate the re-opening of the course, the Men's and Ladies Captain's and Vice Captain's played a friendly but competitive match in today's warm sunshine. Congratulations to Tim and Sarah who played some amazing golf to comprehensively defeat the Captain's. Well done "˜The Vice's'!
I look forward to playing golf with as many of you as I can during the coming year and I hope that you will want to compete against James Baldwin and I in the Captain/Pro Challenge matches. A list of dates and sign up sheet will be posted in the Pro Shop.
With regards to golfing and social activities, we currently remain under Covid 19 government restrictions and I ask for your patience and understanding in the knowledge that MC and the Captain's Committee will undertake to provide as full and interesting programme as we possibly can. It remains our collective objective to return to "˜normal Parkstone life' as soon as possible.
April generally heralds the start of the Men's competitions season, and we are keen that this year should be no different!
The knock out draws for the Men's Captain's Prize, Kitchin Foursomes and Seniors Knockout and the Lyle Mixed Match play competitions have been published. To enable these competitions to proceed, it is essential that competitors adopt a flexible approach and arrange their matches quickly. No extensions to stated round completion dates will be allowed prior to the semi-finals.
Singles Competitions
The following singles competitions are scheduled for the remainder of April and play will be in groups of four:
Saturday 17th April. Canford Cliffs Cup Medal (Inc PGA National Pro Am Qualifier)
Saturday 24th April. Thomson Bowl Medal (DCGU Category Qualifier)
Prize giving for the above competitions will take place once we reach Step 4 (scheduled for 21st June), hopefully at The Captain's First Bash on Friday 25th June. In the meantime, results of the competitions will continue to be posted on the Club website.
Social Event Outlook
Whilst the current government restrictions severely limit any meaningful social activity, there are a number of fundraising activities that members can participate in and, looking further ahead, fun events to put in your diary:
US Masters Sweepstake. Thank you to everyone that has entered and supported this competition. All of the entry tickets are now sold. The draw for players will take place today and shared on the Club website. Good luck to everyone that has entered!
Captain's Charity Car Parking Space. Entry to this prize draw is now underway. Entries are £10 per number on the 10x10 grid positioned outside the Pro shop. Multiple entries are definitely allowed and encouraged!
The draw for the Captain's Charity Car Parking Space will take place on Sunday 25th April after the Captain's Drive In.
Captain's Charity Locker. Silent auction offer bids are invited for the use of the Men's No1 Locker for one year. Bids should be made directly to the Club Office and the winner will be confirmed on Sunday 25th April after the Captain's Drive In.
Save The Date!
The Captain's First Bash. Friday 25th June. The Men's and Ladies' Captain invite all members and their friends and families to join them for drinks, food (optional), music and hopefully to celebrate the end of the UK lockdown restrictions! Further details of this event will be shared shortly.
Shotgun Sunrise Golf and Champagne Brunch. Saturday 19th June.
This Men's event will be teams of four, stableford format, two scores from four to count, with a shotgun start (at 07.00am), followed by a champagne brunch. Entry cost will include prize fund and a champagne brunch.
More details regarding entry etc will be shared next month.
Men's Captains Day. Saturday 3rd July.
Planning for this event is well underway and I hope to provide a day full of fun golf, music, lots of prizes, epic food and more than a beer or two!
General Notes
The course is in AMAZING condition. Initially there are no divots on the fairways, no pitchmarks on the greens and all of the bunkers were in pristine condition! This is our golf course and it is our responsibility to keep it this way! Please make a special effort to repair pitchmarks, even if they aren't yours! Ensure that bunkers are smoothed upon exit and replace divots on the fairways.
The golf course IS going to be "˜super busy' this Spring and Summer! It is therefore even more important than normal that players not only play at a comfortable pace, but also show respect to groups behind AND in front of them.
Thanks for taking the time to read my "˜inaugural message'. I'd love to hear any comments or questions that you might have. Any suggestions or ideas that you would like to share regarding golf or social life at PGC will be gratefully received.
Enjoy your golf in April!
Del the Captain!
